Designs for the shirts:

For this photo shoot, I decide to create a few shirts with the prints that I had previously done in the darkroom. Originally, I used the image to the right and just had the one shirt, however after this was done, I had the idea of creating a shirt for males, with inverted colours. The image to the left is also flipped due to using different paper, as the males shirt was white I had to use light transfer paper, which is placed onto the shirt faced down.
To do this, I edited the darkroom print to make it slightly bigger. To do this, I opened it up on photoshop, then used the clone tool to add a few extra lines to either side and a little more on the top and bottom. I then copied this over to an A4 sized template and added the text. I also then slightly adjusted the levels and contrast on the image, to make sure the blacks are dark and contrasted with the giraffe shape and the white.
I then printed this onto ink jet paper, this gave the image a slightly lower quality and also the printer marked the page. This in turn was copied onto the image. If I were to do this again, I will use another high quality printer to stop this.
I then photocopied that print onto the transfer paper.
Then I waited for the heat machine to get to 180 degrees and aligned the images on the shirt, where I wanted. I then, after setting an alarm for 25 seconds, pressed the image to the shirt.
After this had been done, quickly you have to shake and remove the paper, before it settles.
I then repeated this with the logos on the arms and bottom of the shirt.
I made a few changes in the female and male shirt. The female shirt had a logo on the left arm and the back, bottom middle, where as the male shirt only had one logo to the right bottom back of the shirt. This was done with the intention that the male shirt had rolled up sleeves and worked with modern styles.

This image shows a female model, with a black coat and black trousers modelling my own shirt. The model is staring into the camera, using direct audience. This makes her look comfortable with the camera. The model is leaning against the back of a white backdrop, which I wanted because of the shadow created. This was created by having two soft boxes aimed towards the backdrop and a soft box aimed towards the model, at the front. This gave the image a professional look and allowed me to control the image and its lighting to how I wanted. For this shot I used a digital camera, with an ISO of 100, this allowed me to create an image with no noise and a higher quality. This is more suitable for fashion and images were the merchandise or images will be used for advertising. Another perk with a digital camera is the ability to look back on images and to note the flaws. This is helpful when shooting for advertising and fashion as it allows you to make sure the product looks desirable. I also used a narrow depth of field, to make sure the model is in focus and the backdrop is not. This creates a small contrast and directs the audiences eye towards the model and shirt design. I organised and stored this image using computer programs. To choose my favourites, I created a contact sheet on adobe bridge and chose my favourites. I then created a backup on my memory storage and online, using one drive. I also then created a backup on colleges computer.
Editing:
- Adjusted levels, increase in brightness of mid tones and highlights. Again to make sure the product and images are desirable.
- Increase in saturation to make the model look more life like and fashionable.
- Crop in, once the image has been placed on a postcard sized template.
- Adding of logo in the left hand corner. The customer needs to know where the design can be brought from.

This image shows two female models, modelling my two different shirt designs. They are both looking towards the camera with a similar stance. They both have direct address with the camera, proving they are comfortable and aware with it being there. They also have emotions that portray a little bit of attitude, which fits in with most fashion imagery. The image uses a digital camera with an ISO of 100, again this allowed me to create an image with no noise and a higher quality. This is more suitable for fashion and images were the merchandise or images will be used for advertising. There is a narrow depth of field, with a F number of 4, just to provide a contrast between the models and the backdrop. I like this image as it shows both the shirt designs together. The designs themselves were made to contrast and look similar, but different. This is shown in the image and gives the audience a good idea of what the brand is. The lighting is similar to the image above, however the left soft box has been turned down a little, this has made the left model slightly less exposed. This is slightly improved in post production.
- Cropping to bring the models closer to the foreground. Seem closer to the audience and also makes the shirts look bigger. More of the frame is taken up, instead of having dead space.
- Adding of logo in the left hand corner.

Edit:

This image shows a male model, showing the male tshirt design. I wanted this image to be very simple and possibly could be used for billboards or advertising in general. I chose to use a large amount of dead space to contrast with the focus of the model. The image uses a digital camera with these settings:
F number: 4 - narrow depth of field - focus on model - brings it closer to the audience
Focal length 67- allows me to get enough dead space, but also can frame the model so that the bottom of the design is closer to the bottom of the image.
Shutter speed ; 1/60 - no movement.
ISO: 100 - Allowed me to create an image with no noise and a higher quality. This is more suitable for fashion and images were the merchandise or images will be used for advertising.
Lighting: Two softboxes aimed towards the backdrop and two aimed towards the model - all the same power - no shadow
Editing:
- Adjusted levels, increase in brightness of mid tones and highlights. Again to make sure the product and model are fashionable and desirable.
- Increase in saturation to make the model look more life like and fashionable.
- Cropping to bring the models closer to the foreground, also allowed me to straighten the image, the original is very angled and less fitting for advertising
- Adding of logo in the left hand corner. ________________________________________________________

Edit:

This image shows two female models, one modelling my own designed shirt and one in a giraffe costume. I wanted to show the giraffe costume to act as a mascot and to work along side the logo for the company. The eyes of the giraffe model are covered, which may represent shyness and no confidence with the camera, however they are covered with the costumes hood. This suggests she is just trying to show elements of the outfit, instead of covering herself. The image uses a digital camera with these settings:
Focal length: 45 - again allowing me to frame the image how I want, without being very close to the models.
F number: 8 - narrow, again shows difference between models and backdrop.
ISO: 100 - Allowed me to create an image with no noise and a higher quality. This is more suitable for fashion and images were the merchandise or images will be used for advertising.
Editing:
- Increase of levels, make sure the image is bright and eye catching for the audience.
- Removal of colour using a black and white adjustment layer - original image was very orange and needed a color filter - however, black and white made the image look realistic and suitable.
- Resizing and cropping the image to my style.
- Adding of logo - could not fit to the left side, had to use right.

This image shows three models, two modelling my own shirt designs and one wearing a giraffe costume. I wanted the giraffe costume to make the image look humorous and appeal to a younger audience.
In the original image, there is the top of the softbox in the image. To remove this, I selected the area and used fill and content aware.
Other editing included:
Increase of levels, make sure the image is bright and eye catching for the audience.
Adding a blue cooling filter and increasing the density until the white in the image, is white.
Using liquify to size down male models head, just to make the image seem more fashionable and product desirable.
Cropping and resizing of the image, to postcard size and to get it framed the way I want.
Adding of logo.

This image shows another male model, alone, modelling and displaying a male design tee. The model is staring into the camera, showing direct adress and also connecting to the audience. The image uses a digital camera with the same settings as above. The editing involved was fairly simple; an increase of levels, make sure the image is bright and eye catching for the audience, removal of colour using a black and white adjustment layer, resizing and cropping the image to my style and finally adding of logo.

This image shows a female model, wearing my design tshirt, holding the bottom and looking down at it. The expression on the models face acts as they are interested or proud to be wearing this design.
Uses a digital camera with the same settings and lighting as above, however she is stood further back and the lights do not expose her as much. I have used a focal length of 20 to frame the model with enough space around her to be suitable and so she isn't lost in the image. I also used a 18 to 50 lens, which allowed me to frame the model without her or me moving.
Editing:
Increase of levels
Increase of saturation
Add blue cooling filter - image original is very orange
Resize and crop to fit postcard and to fill the frame.
Add logo

Uses a digital camera with the same settings and lighting as above. For this image, the model is wearing more accessories and rolled up sleeves. This fits more with the male audience and works well within modern fashion.
Editing:
Increase of levels
Decrease of saturation
Resize and crop to fit postcard and to fill the frame.
Add logo and rotate to the side.
This image shows both the male and female models, wearing the fitting designs. Both the models have direct address towards the camera and therefore incorporating the audience into the image. The lighting is the same here as the above images. I do like this image due to the amount of shadows in the image, the left of the models face is more in shadow and contrasts between the right, which allows the facial features to be defined. Also in the image, the female is more exposed and is the main focus, this is something I may experiment with and perhaps improve the image lighting both the models.
Edit:
Increase levels
Black and white adjustment layer
Liquify on F models arm, M models head just to make them slightly smaller and more fashionable.
Adding of logo and rotating to the corner
Experimental work and change of logo:
This set of 4 images show the different logo, one yellow and one black in both coloured and black and white images. I found that with the black and white image, the black harmonises and is not distracting from the model, where as the yellow contrasts and distracts the audience. In this case, I prefer the black.
In the color images, the yellow gets lost in the image and the black does contrast here. Again, I find that the yellow does not work well. Another idea is having the logo on the back of the page, instead of the front. The logo design itself is simple and works with the giraffe name and design. The circle makes it seem like a stamp and could be used in multiple image types. Compared to the before logo, the new one does work better with the image, the lack of text is better here as it does not distract the audience. Another thing is using the brand name on the back with the logo, and only having the logo on the front.
Here, I used a font called 'Giraffe'.
However the text is very small and squashed together. It also looks less professional.
I do however, like the bold logo to the bottom left and will keep that there for my finals.
This image is the same as above, however I found a similar, more bold and simplistic font to use instead. I find that this text is still simplistic and fits well with the audience I am aiming for.
*Spelling error on stock noted*
Here, I have simply digitally used a stamp in the corner, to make it look like it is being used. I do like this, as I think it works well as a whole and works well selling and promoting the products in a more traditional way.

This was a simple editing technique that I had seen previously. Using the select tool, I created lines and added an adjustment layer of black and white. Using a paint brush, I painted on the layer.
I found that the lines work as leading lines and drag the audiences eye around the page. However, I feel like this style is not suitable for fashion and advertising photography as it draws the attention away from the t-shirt and towards the style and editing techniques.
New logo on all final images:
The image below shows all my final images with the new logo. If I continue this project, I will experiment with logo types.
